I’m Ebenezer Nana Kwabena Asamoah-Addo, a software developer and Information Technology student at the University of Ghana. I enjoy taking ideas from simple concepts and turning them into digital products that people can actually use.

My journey with technology started from simple curiosity. Before I ever attended a coding program, I was teaching myself through YouTube tutorials and writing code in Notepad. I didn’t have everything figured out, but I enjoyed experimenting, breaking things, and trying to understand how websites and programs worked.

Then one day, I came across an advertisement for Ghana Code Club. I wanted to join so badly that I begged my mum so many times to sign me up 😂. Eventually, she did, and that decision became one of the experiences that shaped my journey in technology.

Where It All Started 💻

At Ghana Code Club, I got the opportunity to learn programming in a more structured environment. I experimented with Scratch, created simple games, and began developing a deeper interest in how technology could be used to create things.

What started with YouTube videos, Notepad, and a lot of curiosity gradually became something much bigger. I began wanting to understand not just how to write code, but how to use technology to solve problems and build things of my own.

Years later, I found myself returning to Ghana Code Club — this time not as a student, but as a mentor.

A Full-Circle Moment 🧑🏾‍💻

Since starting university, I’ve been involved with Ghana Code Club, helping teach children programming on weekends.

Every Saturday, I work with 15+ young learners, adapting lessons based on their age and experience. With younger learners, I enjoy teaching Scratch and helping them create their first games. With older learners, I introduce programming fundamentals through HTML, web development, Python, and JavaScript.

One of the things I enjoy most is watching a student go from saying “I don’t know how to do this” to seeing their first project actually work.

Coming back to teach at the same place where I first discovered coding feels like a full-circle moment for me. The opportunity I was given as a child helped shape my interest in technology, and now I get to help create that same experience for someone else.

The best part of learning technology is being able to turn around and help someone else discover it too.

Building Real Products 🚀

As I’ve progressed through university, I’ve become increasingly interested in building software beyond classroom assignments.

One of the projects I’m particularly passionate about is SwapGPA, a student marketplace designed to make buying and selling within university communities easier and more convenient. Working on it has given me an opportunity to think about software from more than just the coding side: understanding a problem, designing a solution, building it, and thinking about the people who will eventually use it.

I’ve also built a full-stack perfume e-commerce platform with product listings, cart and checkout functionality, authentication, database management, and an administrative dashboard for managing orders and inventory.

I’m also working on an e-commerce platform for a wig brand, building responsive product pages and interfaces with React and Next.js.

Software Engineering & Teamwork 🛠️

University has also given me opportunities to work as part of software engineering teams.

Through the Speech Forces project, I’ve worked with a team to design and develop a tournament management system. The project has exposed me to areas beyond writing code, including requirements analysis, system design, API planning, documentation, and collaborative development.

These experiences have helped me understand that good software engineering isn’t just about making something work. It’s also about understanding the problem, communicating with a team, making thoughtful decisions, and building something that can be maintained and improved.

More Than Code 🎨

Software development is my main technical focus, but technology isn’t the only way I like to create.

I’m also a graphic designer, UI/UX designer, and photographer. Design has become an important part of how I approach software because I care about both the functionality of a product and the experience people have when using it.

I enjoy moving between different creative and technical projects. One day I might be building a web application, another day designing an interface, and another creating visual content.

For me, these aren’t completely separate interests. They all come back to the same thing: creating something from an idea.

What I’m Working Towards 🌍

I’m still early in my career, and I don’t have everything figured out yet. That’s part of what makes technology exciting to me.

I want to continue becoming a stronger software engineer, build products that solve meaningful problems, and gain experience working with people who challenge me to think differently.

I also want to keep teaching. My experience at Ghana Code Club has shown me how powerful it can be when someone gets an opportunity to discover technology early, and I hope to continue creating those opportunities for others.

Recently, I also had the opportunity to participate in a FinTech hackathon, where my team won 1st place. Experiences like this have reinforced my interest in building technology that solves real-world problems and creating products that can eventually make an impact beyond a university project.

Whether I’m writing code, designing an interface, working on a product, or teaching someone how to make their first game, I’m always learning something new.

I’m a University of Ghana student studying Information Technology, a builder, a designer, and a mentor. I enjoy experimenting with ideas and learning by actually making things.

I’m especially interested in the intersection between software engineering, design, and entrepreneurship, and I’m excited to see where that combination takes me.

For now, I’m focused on becoming better at my craft, building things I’m proud of, and making sure that the things I learn can help someone else along the way.
