From Hackathon to Handshake: Visiting Forms Capital
A few days after winning 1st place at Hack54’s Financial Hackathon, Team MobiFin headed over to Forms Capital’s office. Forms Capital had been closely involved with Hack54, and after seeing what we built, they wanted to sit down with us properly — to show us how they work, what they actually do, and who’s behind the company, since they’re interested in helping us develop MobiFin further and get it ready for the market.

Who Forms Capital Is
Forms Capital Limited (FCL) is a specialized deposit-taking institution regulated by the Bank of Ghana, offering personal and business loans, investment and savings products, and corporate finance advisory to individuals, government workers, business owners, traders, and SMEs. It’s a company with over a decade of experience serving thousands of clients in Ghana — which made the conversation feel less like a courtesy meeting and more like sitting across from people who understood exactly the kind of problem MobiFin is trying to solve.
What the Visit Was About
The visit wasn’t a pitch meeting — it was us listening. We walked through:
- How Forms Capital actually operates day to day, from loan origination to how they think about risk
- The people behind the company — the team that keeps a regulated financial institution running
- Where a project like MobiFin could realistically fit into that world, and what it would take to get there
What stood out most was how directly our hackathon problem — helping MoMo agents manage liquidity and building alternative credit visibility for unbanked customers — maps onto the kind of underwriting and financial inclusion work Forms Capital already does. It’s one thing to build something that works in a 48-hour demo; it’s another to hear from people who lend money for a living about what it would actually take to make it work in production.
Why This Matters
Winning the hackathon was the easy part, in a sense — the harder, more interesting work is everything after: turning a weekend build into something that can survive contact with real regulation, real risk, and real money. Having a partner like Forms Capital, who already operates in that space and is willing to help us get there, is exactly the kind of support that makes that next step feel possible.
